KOFIP

The Collective of Popular Financing – Kolektif Finansman Popilè in Creole – (KOFIP) was born from the initiative of four organizations: Caisse d’Epargne and Credit, (CCG), Fonhades, Fonkoze, Coopérative Solèy Leve and resource persons close to popular organizations, which began in November 1995 to exchange (reflect together) on the need to organize joint actions on popular financing.
In December 1996, about thirty other organizations, very diversified, but all involved in the financing, joined them. In May 1997 the Collective, with 80 organizations representing all regions of the country and all types of grassroots organizations, NGOs working in the credit sector, financial institutions … decided to take the name Collectif de Financement Populaire ( Kolektif Finansman Popilè) – KOFIP.
On July 2, 1997, the General Assembly (GA) set up the first 9-member Board of Directors (CA), to direct the fortunes of KOFIP for a period of two years. On July 24, 1997, KOFIP was officially registered with the General Tax Directorate. A few years later, in 2005, the institution is recognized by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
